Lower School students learned about artist Paul Klee and created their own versions of his famous artwork, "Castle and Sun." We used watercolors and crayons to create these gorgeous resist paintings.
We explored pattern and line designs with Lower School students and learned about balance and repetition. This was also our intro to painting and brush technique! They turned out so beautifully that we included them in our art show lineup! These pattern paintings were made with tempera paint and colored paper.
Lower School students also explored the French Fauvism art movement and created Fauvist style landscapes using wild, vivid colors just like the famous "wild beasts," André Derain and Henri Matisse! We used glue and chalk pastels to create these artworks.
Fifth grade students explored self portraiture and created these incredible paintings using recycled transparencies we found in our art storage! We took portrait shots and traced our photos using sharpie pens on the transparencies. We then painted them in using tempera paint! Because we were unable to finish the background, I mounted them on printed painted backgrounds to help them achieve the end result!
Fourth Grade students explored value, foreground, middle ground and background as well as atmospheric perspective for our Value Landscape Painting project. We practiced mixing tints and shades of colors and created these wonderful paintings for the art show. We used tempera paint and paper for this project.
We explored radial symmetry with our Fourth Grade class and created these beautiful radial origami relief designs! We learned about how we can apply math (fractions) to our artwork to create beautifully balanced, symmetrical art! We used construction and origami paper for this project.
Our Fifth Grade students learned about Geometric Abstraction and explored the works of Frank Stella and Sonia and Robert Delaunay. We learned about creating balance using repetition, color and value and created these fabulous paintings using tempera paint on paper.
All our students created posters for our Alexander School Spring Carnival! We learned how design is art with a purpose and/or function and that our posters had to convey information to our viewers. Students then created posters which conveyed our carnival's theme, and activities in order to promote our annual event!
